Cereals

Cereals are grasses (members of the monocot family Poaceae, also known as Gramineae) cultivated for the edible components of their grain. Cereal grains are grown in greater quantities and provide more food energy worldwide than any other type of crop. Most are annual plants with wheat, rye, triticale, oats, barley, and spelt cool-season cereals. Barley and rye are the hardiest cereals, able to overwinter in the subarctic conditions.
